Gulayan sa Paaralan Program was implemented through DepEd Memorandum No. 293, s. 2007. The general objective of this program is “to promote food security in schools  and communities through self-help food production activities and values among learners, and appreciation of agriculture as a life support system.” In order to sustain the program, DepEd Memorandum No. 223, s. 2016 was issued. The goal of this memorandum is “to sustain school gardens not only to attain 63% sustainable garden at present, but also to establish gardens in all schools nationwide.”

In Pasong Santol Elementary School, the implementation of Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is properly observed. Through the integration of Nutrition Education in different learning areas, the pupils  became aware of the benefits of different vegetables found in the school garden. Aside from that, the school also conducted a symposium to involve the community such as parents, barangay officials, and GPTA officers by teaching them how to plant leguminous and indigenous crops. Right after the symposium, seeds of different crops  was given to the beneficiary who will eventually plant the seeds in their respective garden within the community, and that garden will become the extension of the school Gulayan sa Paaralan.
